The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced an amnesty scheme for the domestic consumers of Jammu and Kashmir who are unable to pay electricity bills of thousands and lakhs of rupees. For electricity consumers, this scheme will be considered applicable from September 12.
Under the amnesty scheme, consumers will be able to pay their old electricity bill without any interest in a minimum period of 12 months .On Monday, the Electricity Department issued order number 103 regarding the amnesty scheme.
Under this scheme, consumers can pay bills up to March 31, 2022 without any interest in a maximum of 12 installments. It will be considered valid from the date of issue of the order. Under the order, the department will issue the entire bill to the consumer, in which the interest levied on it will be abolished and then the consumer can pay this amount in installments.
 If the bill is not paid in 12 months, the consumer will be fined and legal action will also be taken under the Electricity Act 2003.At the same time, the electricity bills after the current March 2022 will have to be paid as before. It will have nothing to do with the previous bill.
The existing bill will not come under the amnesty scheme. Despite this scheme, the consumers who will not pay the old electricity bills, their electricity connections will be disconnected. The power department has tied up with the project management agency to implement this amnesty scheme so that the consumers do not face any kind of trouble.
 While issuing this order, Principal Secretary of the department, Niteshwar Singh has appealed to the consumers to take advantage of the scheme. The Electricity Department has appealed to the consumers to pay all the bills after this March in routine. Failure to do so will result in a fine. Keep paying your electricity bill every month. The form for past bills can be obtained by visiting the office. 
After the Corona epidemic, till now there were many such consumers who were not able to pay the electricity bill. In the coming days, the consumers were getting tu-tu, main-main with the electricity department for getting more bills. There were fights with electricity workers at Nai Basti, Satwari, Digyana, Janipur, Rupnagar and Talab Tillo. Recently, the electricity department teams had to disconnect many connections.
People were demanding to bring amnesty scheme. Now these people will get relief and they will be able to pay the original bill in installments. Suresh Kumar of Gandhinagar, Diler Singh of Nanak Nagar, Surendra Chaudhary of Digyana say that this is a good announcement. We were wishing that the government would have waived off the electricity bills due to Corona. Still, it is a matter of great relief.
